Fans at the TD Garden enjoyed four Bruins goals in a much needed win over the Coyotes.
The first goal came 2:40 into the first period when Coyotes goaltender Mike Smith misplayed a bouncing puck and Milan Lucic put it in the net for his 13th goal of the season. His young linemates Ryan Spooner and David Pastrnak assisted on the goal.
The Bruins increased their lead to 2-0 at 14:13 of the first period thanks to a perfectly placed shot by Brad Marchand, which was set up by a perfectly placed pass from Reilly Smith.
The Coyotes had a little bit of a jump over the Bruins to begin the second period, but Patrice Bergeron changed that with his 18th goal of the season to give his team a 3-0 lead. The puck deflected in off of an Arizona defenseman and was initially credited to Reilly Smith, then changed to Bergeron.
At 11:50 of the second period, the Bruins finally cashed in on a power play on their third chance of the game. Fantastic puck movement resulted in a Zdeno Chara slap shot from the point to put the Bruins up 4-0. It was Chara's fifth goal of the season and resulted in Arizona pulling Mike Smith. Smith assisted on the goal and had three assists in the game, which lead all skaters.
Dougie Hamilton had a close call when he took a shot up high, but it deflected off his visor. He had a laugh about it on the bench afterwards.
In the third period with the Bruins up 4-0, the Coyotes denied Tuukka Rask his shutout when Martin Erat deflected in a shot from Shane Doan.
Other than one goal against, it was an excellent game for the Bruins in their last game before the trade deadline on Monday.
