Record: 21-12
Best win: UCLA (65-55 in Pac-10 tournament semifinals)
Player to watch: Taj Gibson, a long-armed 6-9 junior forward, is a traditional low-post player. Although he is capable of facing the basket and making short jumpers, he did not attempt a 3-pointer this season. He averages 14.3 points while shooting 59 percent, plus 9.4 rebounds and 2.7 blocks per game.
Of note: The Trojans lost six of seven in February but coach Tim Floyd was able to reverse things, and they won the Pac-10 tournament. What really helped was the development of 6-7 freshman forward DeMar DeRozan, who averages 13.6 ppg and 5.7 rpg and was MVP of the tournament. Mostly because of Gibson and DeRozan, the Trojans connect on 47 percent of their shots. Point guard Daniel Hackett uses his 6-5 height to advantage when facing smaller guards. He averages 12.5 ppg and 4.7 apg.
