Boston Red Sox second baseman Dustin Pedroia finished up his two-day rehab stay with the Pawtucket Red Sox by going 0 for 3 in what played out as a 3-1 PawSox win over the Buffalo Bisons.
Pedroia, who served as the DH, felt no ill effects of the broken left foot that kept him out of action since June 26 and said he's ready to get back to Boston.
"I feel good," he said. "I got three at bats. It wasn't anything special."
Veteran first baseman Carlos Delgado, who hopes to join the Red Sox by Sept. 1, took himself out of the game in the fourth inning after experiencing stiffness in his lower back/left hip area.
Delgado underwent two surgeries on his right hip in the last year.
UPDATE 2:57 p.m. Bottom of the sixth
Pedroia now 0 for 3, as he flies out to left field. Will likely get at least one more AB before the day is done.
UPDATE 2:11 p.m. Bottom of the fourth
Pedroia gave the crowd a rise when he poked a long opposite field drive to right, where Buffalo's Jorge Padilla settled under it. Just a loud out.
There was a curious development regarding 1B Carlos Delgado, who was replaced in the fourth inning by Lars Anderson. Delgado struck out swinging in his first time up, but other than that, there was no apparent cause of injury. He did not remain in the dugout. We'll get the explanation to you when we have one.
UPDATE 1:27 p.m. Bottom of the first
Pedroia's first AB is in the books, and results in a 4-6-3 double play. No trouble getting out of the box
12:40 p.m. Getting underway soon
Day 2 of the Dustin Pedroia rehab assignment with the Pawtucket Red Sox. Pedie will be strictly a DH today, hoping for four or so ABs from the third hole (between Nava and Delgado). He'll be facing Buffalo lefty Raul Valdes, a 33-year-old Cuban who will be making just his third AAA start ... touched base with him this a.m. and he reported absolutely no morning after problems coming out of last night's first test. Barring the unforeseen, he'll be back with the big club on Tues. ... Stay posted for updates.
