Over the past 30 years, Boston's monthly average temperatures for December, January and February -- combined -- is 30.5 degrees. Like many places in northern temperate zones, New England's winter temperatures are rising. Boston's average temperature last winter (33.3 degrees), for example, was six degrees higher than in the winter of 1976-77 (27.3 degrees).
