The breach in Weston

The breach of a water pipe in Weston forced the MWRA to activate its emergency water supplies such as the Sudbury Aqueduct, Chestnut Hill Reservoir and Spot Pond Reservoir. A boil water order was issued for drinking water for MRWA communities East of Weston.

The rupture happened in Weston in a 10-foot-wide steel and concrete pipe connecting the MWRA’s MetroWest and city tunnels.

MWRA contractors were able to find a similar large collar that they retrofitted for the pipe. Workers began on sunday morning welding the bottom half of the collar to the pipe and the top half sunday evening. Once the collar was welded on, officials ran tests to ensure there was no other damage to the pipe.
