The marred, mangled 'Banner'

If you saw this last night…


… your ears are probably still bleeding today. But wait: We have more for you. Christina Aguilera’s hideously unbearable performance — in which she managed to flub both the lyrics and the melody — brought to mind some other memorably horrible renditions of our national anthem.

Or -- oh my -- this?


And we can't in good conscience leave out this excellent "SNL" skit.


Perhaps the problem is that it's just too hard to sing Francis Scott Key's famous and famously difficult composition. Maybe it's time we adopt a new national anthem. This one's pretty catchy:


On the other hand, "The Star-Spangled Banner" might not be the problem after all. Maybe it's the adults. Here, for instance, is a beautiful rendition by a 7-year-old girl at a Celtics playoff game two years ago. How come she can do it and Christina Aguilera can't?
