Famous figures with Somerville ties
The author of "The Corrections" moved to Somerville after college with his wife in the '80s to try out a writing career. "I wrote probably 30 stories in my Somerville years, and not one got published, ever," he told the Boston Phoenix.
Franzen wrote for eight hours a day and got a job at Harvard in the seismology department on the weekends. He and his wife eventually moved to New York after his Somerville apartment rent went from $300 a month to $600.
