Famous figures with Somerville ties
David Foster Wallace
The author of "Infinite Jest" set the book in Boston. Wallace lived in Somerville for a few years. The novelist was an Amherst College graduate and Harvard philosophy student.
"I think a lot of the dialect in [Infinite Jest] probably doesn't make much sense if you don't know Boston. Boston made a big impression on me, because linguistically it's very different than where I'm from," he said.
He committed suicide in 2008 in his California home.
