History of flooding North Shore towns
Peabody Mayor Michael Bonfanti has presented a $15 million plan that he says will help eliminate major downtown flooding like the Oct. 4 deluge that flooded dozens of businesses and homes in Peabody Square. About 6 inches of rain fell in Peabody that day. Serious flooding was reported in other North Shore cities and towns, including Swampscott, Salem, Lynn, and Beverly, and the morning commute was a major headache for drivers trying to find their way around roads closed or restricted by flooding.
