First assistant clerk of the Supreme Judicial Clerk Francis Kenneally of Weymouth was appointed Monday as Clerk for the Commonwealth, filling the vacancy caused by the retirement of Susan Mellen.
Jane Kenworthy Lewis has served as acting clerk since August 1. The clerk helms the public office that manages all aspects of bringing cases before the SJC. Before serving in his current post, Kenneally was principal and founder of The Kenneally Law Office.
According to the SJC, he was also associated with Church & Houff P.A. in Baltimore, where he handled litigation on behalf of corporations and casualty insurers. He has also served as a volunteer mediator in civil cases in the Quincy District Court and as clerk for the Weymouth Board of Zoning Appeals. He is a graduate of Fairfield University and Catholic University Law School.
