The following is a press release from the City of Boston:
Mayor Thomas M. Menino has announced that applications are being accepted for a position on the Boston School Committee. Vice Chair Michael D. O’Neill’s term expires on January 7, 2013. Mr. O’Neill was appointed to the Boston School Committee in 2008, and has served as the Vice Chair since January, 2012.
Boston School Committee members are appointed to serve four-year staggered terms. When vacancies exist, the Mayor selects members from a list of candidates recommended by a Citizens Nominating Panel composed of parents, teachers, principals, and representatives of the business and higher education communities. Under the state legislation that established the appointed School Committee, “the Mayor shall strive to appoint individuals who reflect the racial, ethnic and socioeconomic diversity of the city.”
Boston residents who are interested in applying to the Boston School Committee must submit an application by noon on November 19, 2012. Applications are available at www.cityofboston.gov or at www.bostonpublicschools.org.
