A meeting next week hosted by City Councilor Matt O’Malley will work to form a friends group to help choose a location for a possible dog park in West Roxbury and later manage the proposed space.
The gathering will be the second O’Malley has hosted to discuss his idea, announced earlier this summer, for a potentially creating a dog park in the neighborhood. The meeting is scheduled for Sept. 21 at 6:30 p.m. in the Roche Community Center on Centre Street.
At a standing-room-only gathering last month, controversy about the idea stemmed over whether creating a designated area for dogs to run off-leash might lead to a crackdown on leash law enforcement at the 100-acre Millennium Park, which O’Malley has said would be an “ideal location.”
Last fall, an encounter between an unleashed dog and a trainer at Millennium Park revived talks about turning part of the space into a dog park.
Those interested in serving as an officer or board member of the friends group must be a dog owner and a West Roxbury resident. Anyone can be a member of the group.
The councilor has established a Facebook page and Twitter account that can be used as another forum for discussion and will be updated with news related to discussions of a potential dog park in the neighborhood.
