Catholic Memorial senior defenseman Marc Hetnik has officially committed to Boston University for the 2012-13 season, according to CM coach Bill Hanson.
Hanson said the standout blue-liner will spend a year playing junior hockey in Canada, likely with the Nanaimo Clippers of the British Columbia Hockey League, before heading back to Commonwealth Avenue to join the Terriers.
Hetnik joins a long line of CM grads who have committed to BU, including Hanson. Hetnik's father, Marc Hetnik Sr., played at BU under coach Jack Parker, graduating in 1979 with 92 points during a four-year span as a centerman. Hetnik Sr. won a national title with the team in 1978, and now works at the university.
When Hetnik Jr. arrives, he'll likely be a part of a defensive corps featuring another CM grad, Garrett Noonan, who has received rave reviews from Parker over the course of his freshman season.
Hetnik chose BU over, among others, Holy Cross and Boston College, where his mother works.
