The Wellesley United Soccer Club is holding its fourth annual barefoot soccer event this weekend, organizers said, which will feature 18 hours of soccer at Hunnewell Field to benefit AIDS awareness and prevention in Africa.
This year's event will take place 8 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 17 through 2 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 18. Players of all age and skill level are welcome.
Players are required to make a minimum donation of $25, which gets participants a t-shirt and up to 18 hours of soccer.
All proceeds will go to Grassroot Soccer, a nonprofit in Norwich, Vermont that teaches AIDS prevention to African children using soccer to facilitate its educational mission. The organization has taught more than 600,000 African children about AIDS prevention, according to event organizers.
This year, nonprofit Positive Tracks, which focuses on kids getting active and also giving back, said it will also match the event's donations up to $10,000 for AIDS prevention.
