The Wellesley Town Clerk is reminding residents that new voter registration for the Nov. 6 election is Oct. 17. Residents who are new to town or who have moved within the town, as well as residents who are not registered, should register by that deadline.
Anyone unsure of their status can call the Town Clerk to check on registration. If you did not return a census in 2011 or 2012, you will be listed "inactive." Any inactive voter must show proof of continuous residency in Wellesley before they can vote. Calling the Town Clerk before Oct. 17 can restore your status as an active voter.
Voters who qualify for an absentee ballot can make a written request to have a ballot mailed to them. Family members may apply on an absentee voter's behalf. Note that absentee voting is not allowed for convenience: voters must be physically unable to make it to the polls.
Absentee ballots will be mailed beginning Oct. 4, and everyone should have received them by Oct. 9, if they have filed an application.
Absentee voters can vote in person at the Clerk's office from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
