Wellesley Public Schools will have a new interim business manager in April, according to Superintendent Bella Wong.
Judith Belliveau, currently the director of finance and operations at Lincoln-Sudbury Regional School District, will step into the interim role currently occupied by Peter D. De Roeve on April 2.
Belliveau has been a school business administrator in Weston and in Watertown, said Wong.
Wong said that De Roeve has said that he will remain available to assist the district through the end of the school year.
“He was a great help to us,” said Wong. “He wasn’t looking to be full-time.”
Wong said that the appointment of Belliveau will not affect the employment status of business manager Ruth Quinn Berdell, who was placed on voluntary paid administrative leave last November after facing scathing criticism for months over her office’s handling of overdue lunch money.
Last spring, it was revealed that Berdell’s office had failed to collect about $169,000 worth of school lunch debt. An audit triggered by the discovery showed sloppy accounting practices in the business office. No misappropriation was uncovered.
Berdell’s placement on leave followed on the heels of Wong’s Nov. 10 resignation, which will be effective at the end of the school year.
Berdell has now been on voluntary paid leave for 13 weeks. Her annual salary is $138,211 according to the district.
Wong and other school officials have repeatedly declined to say when a decision will be made about Berdell’s employment.
Wong said that Belliveau will collect the same salary that De Roeve has been collecting as an interim, which, according to assistant superintendent Salvatore Petralia, is $650 per day. Wong said that benefits are not included in that salary.
