Wellesley police are searching for a male suspect following a sexual assault reported today at a home on Edmunds Road.
The female victim called 911 shortly after 1 p.m., saying she had been sexually assaulted by a man carrying a firearm, said police Lieutenant Marie Cleary. The suspect then fled on foot through a rear door.
The suspect was described as a black male with very little hair, wearing all black clothing, and blue gloves, police said.
There was no sign of forced entry, and no other reports of sexual assaults in neighboring communities, Cleary said.
More than a dozen police cars went to the scene, while State Police K9 and helicopter units assisted in the search for a suspect. Police also checked yards and interviewed residents.
‘‘We are all concerned as a neighborhood,’’ said Dawn Baillie, who lives in the area. ‘‘I was completely shocked. I would never have suspected that there would be a sexual assault in the area.’’
“If you see someone fitting the description of the suspect, DO NOT APPROACH THEM and call 911 immediately,” police said in an emailed alert to residents.
