A three-car crash occurred on Route 9 eastbound in Wellesley at the Natick line this morning, tying up traffic and sending two people to the hospital with minor injuries.
The accident occurred at 7:53 a.m., temporarily shutting down the left-hand lane, said Lieutenant Marie Cleary, public information officer for the Wellesley Police Department. The lane opened back up at around 9 a.m.
Cleary was not sure how the accident occurred, but said it caused significant backup.
Both injured motorists have been transported to Newton-Wellesley Hospital.
Meanwhile, Wellesley crews are paving Hampden Street and sections of Weston Road throughout the morning, causing more traffic throughout town.
Work began on Hampden Street, which has been closed and detoured, at around 7 a.m. and the road is expected to stay closed until noon. Access to the Hunnewell Elementary School will be allowed by police officers on the scene.
