A joint press conference slated Thursday between the FBI and Newton and Wellesley officials to address a recent wave of bank robberies in both communities has been postponed.
A spokesman for the Newton mayor's office said organizers hope it will be rescheduled within the next week.
A statement released earlier today said officials would be seeking the public’s help in identifying the individual or individuals responsible for five robberies in Newton and one in Wellesley this year.
The latest robbery took place May 1 at the TDBank North on Route 9 in Wellesley, when a masked male carrying a firearm entered the bank and demanded money from the tellers. He displayed a black firearm during the robbery and after taking the money, fled from the bank on foot, police said.
On April 26, a masked man carrying a black handgun entered Village Bank in Newton Highlands and ordered bank customers to the floor before demanding cash from the teller and fleeing, police said.
