Officials from the Watertown Education Foundation are inviting local students in grades 1 through 5 to participate in the organization's fourth annual spelling bee Sunday, Jan. 26, according to foundation officials.
The event, which is sponsored by Belmont Savings Bank, will take place at Watertown Middle School at 10 a.m.
Children can register in teams of three. Admission into the bee costs $20 per student, or $60 per team of three. Registrations must be submitted by Tuesday, Jan. 21.
Each grade's winning team will receive Belmont Savings Bank passbooks, each with a $50 deposit. The bank will also present a $6,500 check to the Watertown Education Foundation to buy laptops for Watertown Middle School, according to bank representatives.
The event will also feature a raffle, with an iPad mini as the grand prize. Raffle tickets cost $10 for one ticket, $15 for two, and $25 for five. The winner does not need to be present to take home the prize.
Parents can also opt to buy their child a spelling bee t-shirt at $10 each, according to the foundation.
