The state fire marshal’s office was called to a house on Gale Street in Waltham for the second time in less than two weeks early Thursday morning to investigate a second possible Molotov cocktail incident there.

The fire marshal investigated the first incident at 44 Gale St. on Aug. 27, after reports came in of a suspicious object there at around 7:30 a.m. No one was injured in the fire, but the house's vinyl siding saw a small amount of fire damage, said Waltham Police Det. Sgt. Tim King.

The home's residents again called police just before 12:30 a.m. Thursday morning after a burning odor permeating their home led them outside to a small ground fire surrounded by broken glass, King said.

"We believe it to be the same type of incident as last time, where someone threw a bottle against the house," King said.

The residents used a garden hose to put out the fire, which was again smoldering against the house and caused "minimal damage" to the siding, King said.

Authorities could not release a suspect description, or say if the perpetrator is known the residents, citing an ongoing investigation.

"We're working with the family to determine if that’s the case or not," King said, referring to if they knew the suspects.

However, King did previously say that police think the incident was not random.

"It would appear that the suspect targeted that location intentionally," he previously said. "It doesn’t appear to be a random act."

King said these types of incidents are rare in Waltham.

The Waltham Police and Fire departments are working in conjunction with the state fire marshal's office in an ongoing investigation into the incidents.

Anyone with information can call the Waltham Police Department at 781-314-3550, or submit an electronic anonymous tip through texting WPD and the tip information to 847411 (tip411), or by visiting the department's website or Facebook.
