The Reagle Music Theatre in Waltham will close its 45th anniversary season with a 10-day run next month of Les Miserables, the popular musical about France's June Rebellion that has won nine Tony Awards including "Best Musical."

The production, which will run from August 8 to August 18, is chock full of Broadway talent: David Hugo is choreographing, and acclaimed tenor Ivan Rutherford, who has performed the role of Jean Valjean more than 2,000 times on Broadway and on tour, stars in the local show.

Other cast members include noted Broadway vocal coach Doug Jabara as Javert, and Tony Award nominee and Theatre World Award winner Maureen Brennan as Mme. Thénardier.

IRNE Award winners Dan Rodriguez and Jeffrey P. Leonard will run the music, with Rodriguez as music director and Leonard conducting. Scenic design is by Robert Klingelhoefer of Maine State Music Theatre and the Fulton Theatre. Lighting design is by Elliot Norton Award winner David Wilson. Costumes are by Kansas City Costumes.

Based on the epic novel by Victor Hugo, Les Miserables is set against events leading up to the June Revolution in early 19th century France.

The musical presents the story of Jean Valjean’s unjust imprisonment and lifelong struggle for redemption despite being pursued relentlessly by the obsessed police inspector Javert.

Robert Eagle, founder and producing artistic director of Reagle Music Theatre, said the theatre looks forward to putting on such an esteemed show for local residents.

“We couldn’t be happier to have two noted Broadway veterans with us for this journey," Eagle said. "Ivan Rutherford is a splendid and heart-breaking Valjean, and David Hugo will bring all of the power and soul of this magnificent story to life in an all-new staging created specifically for Reagle Music Theatre. This is a once-in-a-lifetime experience that our patrons will remember for years to come.”

Performances are August 8, 10, 11 and 18 at 2 p.m.; and August 9 and 15, 15, and 17 at 7:30 p.m.

Tickets are $57, $49, $42 and $35 for adults. Seniors 60 years and older receive $3 off. Youths aged 5 through 18 are $25.

Tickets are available by phone at 781-891-5600, in person at the box office, or online, where patrons may now choose their own seats using an interactive seating chart.
