A Leominster District Court judge has set bail at $7,500 for the Waltham High School security guard who allegedly stole bomb-making materials from the school’s chemistry storage room last month.
Jesse Holland, 23 of Gardner, was arrested in late February in a Leominster Barnes & Noble parking lot after police found a hatchet, stun gun, and a Class A substance in his car. Holland allegedly said he wanted to throw the materials into a fire to see what would happen, according to police.
The State Police bomb squad confirmed to the Globe that the materials can be used to create an explosive.
Holland was not on the city’s payroll, according to the Waltham superintendent’s office, but was employed through a contracted security company.
If Holland makes bail, he would have to wear a GPS monitor, according to the Worcester District Attorney’s office.
Holland’s pre-trial hearing, which is his next court date, is scheduled for March 27.
