The Upper Crust Pizzeria on Moody Street in Waltham has shuttered its doors, adding to a growing list of Boston-area Upper Crust locations that have closed down amid growing turmoil in the company.
The pizza company made an announcement of the closure via their Facebook page:
Hey there, fans of Upper Crust in Waltham! We have moved our operations and stellar staff from Moody Street to our nearby pizzerias in Watertown and Lexington. Call us in Lex (781-274-0089) or W'town (617-923-6060) to order, or stop in and see us there. We look forward to seeing you soon!
A call placed to the Waltham Upper Crust telephone number was automatically re-routed to Watertown, where an employee confirmed the Waltham location has been closed since Sunday.
The Waltham location's closing adds to this June's closing of Upper Crust on Commonwealth Avenue by Boston University campus, as well as locations in Salem and Beverly in February after the franchisee there was ordered to pay $80,000 to employees in back pay.
The chain faces ongoing federal investigations and lawsuits involving its labor practices. In July, a judge allowed the case class-action suit status for restaurant workers claiming they did not receive their full deserved wages.
The company also placed its founder, Jordan Tobins, on leave in April after he allegedly used company funds for personal expenses.
The company's website lists 16 locations, not including Waltham, that are still open in Massachusetts and Washington, DC.
