A Waltham woman and her military fiance have been chosen as one of three finalist couples to compete to win an all-expenses paid wedding.

The second annual competition, "A Military Wedding to Remember," is presented by FOX25 and the Westin Copley Place. The wedding would take place on Veteran's Day at the Westin.

The partnering companies received about 100 submissions for the wedding competition from all over Massachusetts and New Hampshire.

Vanessa Vega, who hails from Waltham, and her fiance, Jonathan Valentin, a Methuen resident, were one of the three final couples chosen for the competition.

According to FOX25, the two met at a Somerville barbecue, and developed a romantic relationship over time, remaining strong even while Valentin was on military duty.

Valentin proposed to Vega on the Spirit of Boston ship, bringing along her mother for the momentous occasion.

In their competition profile, the couple said they want to win the wedding so that the two's family will be spared the financial burden.

If the couple wins, they will also receive a honeymoon at the Sheraton Puerto Rico Hotel and Casino, as well as a wedding dress, wedding cake, wedding invitations, bridal party gifts, dance lessons, home furniture, new home appliances, and more, according to competition organizers.

The three finalists, all from Massachusetts and active members of the U.S. military, were selected this week. Voting for the final couple ends on Sept. 26, and the winners will be announced live on FOX25 Morning News on Sept. 27. The wedding will take place at The Westin Copley Place on Veteran’s Day, which is Sunday, Nov. 11.

As of 3 p.m. today, Valentin and Vega held about 15 percent of the vote for the free wedding.
