The Waltham YMCA is putting the finishing touches on its newly renovated indoor pool and locker rooms.
The organization resurfaced the bottom of the pool, and performed an overhaul renovation in the locker rooms, substituting carpet with tiled floors, installed modern lockers, coated walls with fresh paint and replaced benches with new ones.
“It was a budgeted renovation,” said Jen Weller, membership and marketing director. “There was water buildup over the years, and the lockers hadn’t been renovated in 20 years, so it was time.”
The pool will reopen July 5th, and the locker rooms are slated to finish renovations around July 11th, Weller said.
The Waltham YMCA members expressed satisfaction with the pool’s renovations, and have mostly understood the pool’s closing for the work, she said.
“We had the outdoor pool open so we let them all use that,” Weller said. “They had different hours, but they’re all excited to see the new pool and locker rooms.”
The Waltham YMCA has about 7,000 members. In the summer, approximately 1,000 individuals use the YMCA pools per day, including lap swimmers, lesson-takers and the 300 summer camp wards, Weller said.
“Our membership is always growing, so we have to keep up with the demand,” she said.
