The Waltham Community Preservation Committee has approved using $300,000 in preservation act funds for a new fire sprinkler system at Gore Place.
The proposal now goes before a City Council committee and the full council for final approval.
The City Council is expected to take up the Gore Place item at their next meeting, according to CPA Program Manager William Durkee. He said that, if all goes well, he expects the measure to successfully pass through the council in about a month..
Funds available to communiuties under the state's Community Preservation Act come from a combination of a surcharge on local property taxes and state matching grants.
The funds can be used for open space, historic preservation and affordable housing.
The preservation committee also held a hearing Tuesday on an application requesting a $45,500 study of a slate roof restoration project at 101 Prospect Street, another historic site. The committee did not take action on the item because they did not receive a legal review of the application in time for the meeting.
