Every season fashion has new colors and styles. New dress styles and new colors. Eyeglasses go through changes too. Lately, the new style of eyeglasses is small and light. Some glasses have thin and narrow bows.
Hearing aids also have changed styles. No longer are hearing aids big and clunky. Hearing aids now have a thin wiring that virtually disappears from the hearing aid to the ear canal. This new style is called “open fit” by the manufacturers. The ear canal does not have to be filled with an ear mold that can make it feel full and appear full to the observer.
The shell of the behind the ear hearing aids now are available in fashion colors. Years ago just beige or a dark brown were the color choices. Now, you can have a dark grey, light grey or a silver. There is a copper brown, or a dark brown. There is a clear black to a shiny black. And, a blue, red, warm gold, beige is available. A client can make a fashion statement with their hearing aids.
One gentleman wanted shiny black aids because black represents high technology. His hearing aids were the best technology. A woman chose blue because blue is her favorite color. She had told her family and friends that she was ordering blue hearing aids. She was excited. She was fit with the aids, and expected her family and friends to notice the bright blue hearing aids. However, with the open fit wiring, and small receiver, the aids virtually disappeared and no one noticed them!
Not only have hearing aids become fashion conscious on the exterior, hearing aids have become high tech on the inside. Hearing aids are now 100% digital programming. Hearing aids have computer chips and can be programmed specifically for each person’s hearing loss. If the wearer’s hearing changes, the hearing aids can be reprogrammed to accommodate the new hearing loss.
Having a hearing loss can negatively affect a person’s job, and family relationships.
But, hearing aid manufacturers are paying attention to what people want. People have more choices when they can choose the color of their hearing aids. People can choose the technology level that matches their lifestyle and pocketbook.
