The following was submitted by the Stoneham Chamber of Commerce:
On behalf of the members of its 2013 Scholarship Committee, the Stoneham Chamber of Commerce is pleased to announce that its 2013 scholarship applications are available for graduating high school seniors. This year, the Chamber will award four (4) $500 scholarships and one (1) $1,000 scholarship.
The four (4) $500 scholarship awards are created in memory of John F. (‘Jack’) Mahoney, Jr. and Kathleen E. Bray – community and Chamber members who used their talents and strengths to build their businesses in Stoneham and to find ways to give back to the Stoneham community over their years here. The Chamber’s $1,000 scholarship is ideally awarded to a student pursuing a business-oriented career. The Chamber’s ability to fund these annual scholarships is directly tied to the generous support of its business members. Each year members underwrite programs such as this scholarship program, the Summer Concert Series, Stoneham Town Day, the annual Tree Lighting, and many others.
Applicants must be either the child or grandchild of a member in good standing of the Stoneham Chamber of Commerce, or an employee of a member in good standing. Requirements include two letters of reference, an essay and a current official high school transcript.
Applications are available in the guidance departments at Stoneham High School and Northeast Metropolitan Regional Vocational High School. Applications are also available online at stonehamchamber.org. All applications must be complete and are due in the Chamber of Commerce Office, 271 Main Street, Suite L02, Stoneham, MA 02180 no later than Friday, May 3, 2013.
