On Thursday the Fort Point will celebrate the grand opening of its newest building, 315 on A.
The 20-story building, located at 315 A St. in South Boston, boasts 202 rental units, which includes 22 onsite affordable units.
“I think it’s an exciting time for the whole district,” explained Kelly Saito, president of Gerding Edlen, the developer behind the project. “There are so many great things happening in the area and we are just excited to be part of it.”
The $100-million project also represents a new breed of “green” buildings in Boston, it is expected to be certified LEED Gold.
From photovoltaic cells to bicycle storage, Saito said the building seeks to not only make living spaces greener, but create an environment that encourages others to follow suit.
“We’ve been proponents of making buildings sustainable for a very long time,” said Saito. “For us what’s important is we push the envelope on reducing the environmental impact of the building.”
Close to 25 percent of the units have already been rented and residents began moving in in November, according to Saito
This is not Gerding Edlen’s first building in the Fort Point, the group was also behind the development of Factory 63 on Melcher Street.
