South Boston 2013 Saint Patrick's Day Parade Guide: MBTA service restrictions, family zones, resident parking, traffic closures
Beginning at approximately 11:00 a.m. on March 17, 2013, all bus routes will be unable to service Broadway Station and Andrew Station due to traffic and road closures, though the stations will remain open for Red Line service. In addition, the following bus routes will operate on diversion:
- Route 9: Service will not operate for the duration of the parade.
- Route 10: Service will begin/terminate at the South Bay Mall.
- Route 11: Service will not operate for the duration of the parade.
- Route 16: Connections can be made at the South Bay Mall and the lower level of JFK/UMass Station.
- Route 17: Connections can be made at Fields Corner Station and the lower level of JFK/UMass Station.
- Route 47: Service will begin/terminate on Albany Street at East Berkley Street.
Additionally, Route 7 (which normally does not operate on Sundays) will operate from South Station to City Point beginning at 7:00 a.m.:
Trips from South Station toward City Point will operate on the hour with a last trip at 6:00 p.m.
Trips from City Point to South Station will operate on the half hour with a last trip at 6:30 p.m.

Resident parking details:
WHEN: 10 p.m. Saturday, March 16, 2013 – 11 p.m. Sunday, March 17, 2013
WHERE: Castle Island Parking Lot OPEN to resident’s vehicles 10 p.m. Saturday until 11 p.m. Sunday.
Day Boulevard, both sides, parking allowed: from Bayside Expo Center to Farragut Street from 7 a.m. – 7 p.m. on SUNDAY only.
Sugar Bowl Parking Area CLOSED from Saturday at 10 p.m. to Sunday 7 p.m.
All non-resident vehicles are asked to exit the Castle Island parking lot before 10 p.m. Saturday.
Due to parking restrictions created by the parade, DCR is pleased to accommodate South Boston residents with parking at Castle Island from 10 p.m. on Saturday evening, March 16, through 11 p.m. on Sunday evening, March 17. This parking will be available first to all vehicles with South Boston Resident Parking Stickers. After 7 a.m. on Sunday, March 17, the lot will open for parking for all.
The Castle Island parking lot will be staffed overnight through Sunday. All vehicles will be checked for South Boston Resident Parking Stickers between 10 p.m. Saturday and 7 a.m. Sunday.
Non-resident vehicles will be allowed to park at Castle Island from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Sunday.
From 7 a.m. Sunday morning until 7 p.m. Sunday evening on March 17, parking will be allowed on both sides of Day Boulevard between the Bayside Expo Center and Farragut Street.
Certain areas will be posted no parking on the day of the parade and unauthorized parking will be strictly enforced. As always, do not park near fire hydrants, in handicap spots, or in intersections. Additionally, curb cuts and double parking, as well as parking on grass areas, sidewalks, and other pedestrian areas will result in fines.
Specifically, the Sugar Bowl parking area opposite Marine Park will be closed to parking as of Saturday night, March 16, at 10 p.m. No parking will be allowed in the Sugar Bowl area until after the event on Sunday, March 17.
