Some local agencies are making sure that children won't be left out of this weekend's St. Patrick's Day festsivities in South Boston.

On Saturday, the South Boston Association of Non-Profits and South Boston CAN Reduce Underage Drinking are kicking off the day right, giving parents and their children a chance to get their photos taken with some big stars.

From 10:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. at Julie’s Family Learning Center on Dorchester Street, children can get their pictures taken with Dora the Explorer, Elmo, and Winnie the Pooh.

The event is free, but parents must bring their own cameras.

Family Zones

The two groups have also set up their Family Zones to make sure that everyone has a safe and fun St. Patrick’s Day.

The zones will be open Sunday at 12:30 p.m. and will close at the end of the parade.

There will be three zones this year:

-- The Action Center (Elmo): 424 West Broadway.

-- Old Colony (Dora): Corner of Dorchester Avenue and Rev. Burke Street.

-- The Laboure (Winnie the Pooh): 275 West Broadway.

The zones are open to all families that would like a safe and sober venue to watch the parade. The zones will also have snacks, arts and crafts, and plenty of other fun activities.

All families looking to take part in the Family Zone activities must check in at the registration table to get a stamp for the day.
