Boston Mayor Thomas M. Menino announced the winners of the city's fifth annual Green Awards today, and South Boston boasted more recipients than any other neighborhood.
Four of the 11 winning green businesses were from South Boston, mostly from the Seaport district, which Menino has identified as a center of innovation.
ADD Inc architects, which specializes in sustainable design, renovated its own offices to receive LEED platinum certification. The law firm of Nutter McClennan and Fish was praised for implementing water conservation and waste reduction strategies after commissioning an energy audit of its offices. The Seaport Hotel, which already won a Green award in 2007, was recognized again for expanding its conservation efforts by buying renewable energy credits and launching a compost program.
Blue Tierra Chocolate on West Broadway also received an award. The café uses all recyclable or compostable to-go containers and reuses old china cups, and the store uses only chemical-free cleaning agents.
