Retailers preparing to open their doors in the new Assembly Row development in Somerville will begin hiring new employees at four job fairs beginning next weekend.
Legoland Discovery Center and AMC Theatres are two of at least 15 businesses that will be participating in the hiring events being held March 1, 2, 8 and 9 (cq) in the East Somerville Community School at 50 Cross St.
Only Somerville residents will be allowed to attend the first two job fairs scheduled for Saturday, March 1, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Sunday, March 2, from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m.
"With the first phase of development nearing completion at Assembly Row, Somerville residents will begin to see the early benefits of these plans and goals," said Somerville Mayor Joseph Curtatone in a press release Friday.
The job fairs are being hosted by the City of Somerville and Assembly Row developer Federal Realty Investment Trust and almost 1,500 positions are expected to be filled in the first phase of the development, said Russ Joyner, the vice president and general manager of Assembly Row.
Legoland Discovery Center will be looking to hire more than 100 employees, said David Gilmore, the general manager for the Center in a joint press release with the city and Federal Realty.
Other businesses in Assembly Row that will be participating in the job fair include Pendleton, Brooks Brothers, Chicoís, Fuji, Wilsons Leather, Papagayo, Tony Cís, J.P. Licks, Puma, the Nike Factory Store, Le Creuset, Sports Authority and Starbucks. Organizers are expecting more businesses will be added to the list.
The businesses will accept resumes and applications and discuss open positions at the job fair. Some of the jobs being offered include sales associates, manager and assistant manager positions and a sample of some of the jobs already posted can be found online here.
The job fairs scheduled for Saturday, March 8, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Sunday, March 9 from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. will be open to residents of Somerville and the surrounding communities.
