Somerville Mayor Joseph Curtatone postponed the kick-off celebration for his reelection campaign, originally scheduled for Monday night.
Curtatone announced the decision Sunday morning on Facebook.
"Given the blow dealt to our community by the loss of Sean Collier, I'm postponing the kickoff event for my mayoral campaign," the message said. "This week simply isn't the time for a political event. We need more time to come together and heal."
Collier, the 26-year-old MIT police officer fatally shot last Thursday by the suspected bombers at the Boston Marathon, lived in Somerville and previously worked as a civilian in the Somerville Police Department.
The event was to take place at 5:30 p.m. Monday at the Armory on Highland Avenue.; it has been rescheduled for May 22.
