Somerville SCATV host Joseph Lynch will sponsor a live town hall discussion Monday focusing on the Community Preservation Act, a ballot question that would increase property taxes but would dedicate the money raised to open space and affordable housing.
If enacted, the proposal would hike property taxes by 1.5 percent, with the state matching a percentage of the new income. The funds could be used by the city to preserve open space, outdoor recreation, historic preservation, and affordable housing.
To get a seat at the event, arrive at the SCATV studio in Union Square by 7:45 p.m. Featured will be a panel to respond to questions:
Denise Provost, State Representative
Dick Bauer, Somerville Historic Preservation Commission chair
Mary Cassesso, Affordable Housing Trust Fund
Shelly Goehring, Community Preservation Coalition/Massachusetts Affordable Housing Alliance
Alan Moore, Friends of the Community Path
