Mayor Joseph A. Curtatone's family minivan was broken into early this morning outside his home in the Ten Hills neighborhood, the mayor said today.

A neighbor alerted police about 6:20 a.m. that a suspicious person was peering into the Toyota Sienna, the Mayor said.

There were no signs of forced entry, Curtatone said, and police were in possession of the car investigating. About $10 was missing, Curtatone said.

"The car was definitely rummaged through," he said. "Hopefully they can find some evidence."

Officers stopped a suspect in connection with the break, but did not arrest the person. Curtatone said the suspect had previously been convicted of similar offenses, and that police are looking into a possible connection.

Curtatone said he usually locks the vehicle, but said there was a chance it could have been left open accidentally.

Late last month, two brothers were charged with breaking into US Rep. William Keating's car in Quincy. Malden Mayor Richard C. Howard's car was vandalized while parked in the City Hall garage in October.
