Scituate Town Library will knock off their February installment of “Meet the Artist” with Front Street Gallery card artist Belaine McCabe.
The author of the children’s book “Nickolai, My Little St. Nick” will do a craft presentation on Wednesday, Feb. 23 from 7 p.m. till 9 p.m. in the lower library for anyone with an artistic inkling, of any age.
According to Janet Cornacchio, the President of the Scituate Arts Association who helps bring in the artists, McCabe has been decorating cards for five to six years, and her work is one of a kind.
“She does a mixed media approach, and will use a bell or a ribbon. It’s a lot of fun to do and a way to teach people to use cards that are left over and too pretty to throw out,” Cornacchio said.
In a collage type of way, McCabe takes images from old cards to create something new and unique. Not one of her cards are the same, Cornacchio said, and they are very popular items.
“Her cards are great and people come in specifically to look for them,” Cornacchio said. “A lot of people will pop in to pick one up for a special event, because they are different. And a lot of our artists sell parts of their illustrations for her cards.”
Attendees will learn how to use mixed media to recycle their own holiday cards to create a new type of art. McCabe requests that participants bring old holiday cards with them, however there will be some cards available for those who don’t have any.
All participants will leave with three homemade cards.
There is a suggested $5 donation is applicable to cover the costs of materials.
