Peggotty Beach in Scituate will remain closed to swimming for the weekend because certain bacteria levels are more than three and a half times the permissible limit, according to the town's website.
The beach, located in the Second Cliff area of town, has been closed for swimming since Wednesday, when testing done earlier in the week said bacteria levels could cause illness.
Scituate says its five other beaches that are tested weekly -- Humarock, Sand Hills, Egypt Beach, Scituate Lighthouse, and Minot -- are still open for swimming.
Testing will resume Monday, and the beach will remain closed for swimming until further notice, according to the town’s website.
It is not clear when the beach will once again be open for swimming.
