The irrepressible wit, warmth and musical talents of folk singer/songwriter Don White return to the Salem Theatre Company stage at 90 Lafayette Street in Salem on Saturday, June 15 at 7:30 p.m., as the STC Music & More Series continues with its latest installment.
A working class family man from Lynn, Massachusetts, White has emerged as a leading musical and comic talent, who can take audiences from laughter with “I’m From Lynn, What Can I Say?” to tears with “I Know What Love Is” within a few short minutes. White learned his art in the trenches, performing on the road across the country for decades and often doing as many as nine shows a week. In the process he developed his own infectious brand of humor and pathos, which rivets the crowd wherever he plays.
White illuminates the human experience through his writing and performing, leading the Boston Herald to review, “…there is an honesty and self-deprecating wit in his material that is an immediate tonic.” Whether he is singing, speaking, or setting up the sneakiest punch line of the night, White has the hearts of his audience and they clearly have his. Says the Boston Globe, “No artist on the coffeehouse circuit today is better than Don White at combining the heartfelt aesthetics of the singer-songwriter with side-splitting laughs…Even his silliest jokes shimmered with emotional truth.”
