The city of Salem has begun one of its five annual yard waste pickup weeks. The disposal began on Monday April 22 and will wrap up on Friday April 26. All waste will be picked up on regular trash days and must be separated from normal trash..
Such waste includes leaves, grass clippings, woodchips or other easily raked materials, but sticks must be cut in four-foot lengths and tied with string. No tree stumps will be accepted.
Disposable waste must be placed in paper yard waste bags, which can be purchased at local hardware stores and supermarkets, or loose, open barrels.
Any waste placed in plastic bags or cardboard boxes of any type will not be picked up.
If any resident misses the regularly scheduled pickup, with proof of Salem residence and a non-commercial vehicle registered in Salem, the waste may be dropped off at the transfer station on Swampscott Road at no cost during the following hours: Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. and on Saturday 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
