The Salem School Committee honored 21 retiring employees prior to its regular meeting on Monday, June 18, at the Witchcraft Heights Elementary School.

"The hardest part of my job as mayor is certainly working to improve our Salem Public Schools, and I just chair the school committee," said Mayor Kim Driscoll. "Imagine the educators who have 20, 25 sometimes 26 or 27 sets of eyes looking back at them, and to do that for a number of years - and to do it with such dedication and a real commitment to trying to make each individual student better as we also work to improve our Salem Public Schools - I'm really grateful for the great team of staff we have.

"I certainly want to thank you for everything you've done collectively as a group to make Salem Public Schools what they are, it's very much appreciated."

The longest tenured educator on the list of 2012 retirees is Dolores Cagney, a first grade teacher at Carlton Elementary, who has taught in Salem for the past 44 years.
