Salem schools are closed and a parking ban remains in effect as crews clear roads from a snowstorm the National Weather Service predicts could accumulate up to 8 inches.
Crews began salting roads at about 3 a.m. today, said Donna Michaud of Salem's Department of Public Works. Salt trucks and plows are still out, she added.
Roads are "white and snowy," Michaud said. "They're not clear, but they're tolerable."
Drivers should take proper precautions as roads are slippery, according to Michaud.
"Take it slow," Michaud said. "Use common sense."
According to a National Weather Service forecast, most snow should end by 3 p.m.
