Women who previously relied on the Dana-Farber Mammography Van, which only made monthly visits to the Whittier Street Health Center, can now stay on top of their health and not have to wait for the van’s visits.
Dana-Farber recently announced the completion of its on-site mammography suite at the health center, providing easy access to screenings in addition to trained staff members
“The Whittier Street facility enables us to serve more women in the community and provide lifesaving education, screening, and support services,” Jack Meyer, director of breast imaging at Dana-Farber, explained in a statement.
The suite, which is open Tuesday through Thursday and has same-day appointments available, will be able to offer twice as many mammography screenings as the van, in addition to creating a one-stop shop for the women who rely on the health center’s services.
“With every new program added to our wealth of services, we are getting that much closer to eliminating health disparities, an ultimate goal at Whittier,” Frederica M. Williams, president and CEO of Whittier Street Health Center, said in a statement. “The opening of the Dana-Farber mammography suite is yet another example of that commitment. We are proud to partner with one of the world’s leading organizations in conquering cancer.”
