As the summer winds down Roxbury residents will have one last chance to enjoy the weather and get out of the house as the Weaverfest Committee holds its fourth-annual Labor Day Weekend Candidates’ Debate and Barbeque.
“This annual event presents an opportunity for neighbors to meet candidates for office in Roxbury and to learn more about the issues impacting our area. Everyone is invited to share in the barbecue,” Abubacar Weaver, a long-time resident of Roxbury and organizer of the event, said in a statement.
Set for Saturday from 12:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. in the Gertrude Howes Park, the fun and free event will feature a barbeque, presentations by the Boston Police Department’s B-2 district and the Boston Fire Department, and a performance by the E-Water Blues Band.
In addition to the games and food, local elected officials including state Senator Sonia Chang-Diaz, state Representative Gloria Fox and candidates Jed Hresko and Rufus Faulk have been invited to talk with residents about their campaigns.
Gertrude Howes Park is located at 68 Moreland St. For more information contact Abubacar Weaver at (617) 427-3123.
