A free how-to workshop on purchasing foreclosed properties will be held next week in Roxbury.
Local nonprofit Nuestra CDC will co-host the Feb. 15 workshop with The Boston Home Center. The workshop will cover the process of purchasing a foreclosed property - from choosing a home to picking the right mortgage along with information on legal issues involved and how to access special home repair resources, said a release from Nuestra.
"Boston is hardly known for low real estate prices, but the current housing market may be friendlier than that of previous years," the release said. "The downward trend in real estate prices has opened up opportunities for those hoping to buy an affordable home. Some will find the best value in a foreclosed property."
"The workshop aims to provide homebuyers with the information they need to get the best value for their new home. Education enables buyers to go into the process with their eyes wide open and make cost-effective, practical decisions," the announcement continued.
The class will be held, free of charge, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. in the new community room of the Thomas I. Atkins Apartments on the corner of Blue Hill Avenue and Edgewood Street.
