The Burbank YMCA, a branch of the YMCA of Greater Boston, hosts an open house for returning and new campers on Tuesday, March 19, 2013 from 7 to 8 p.m. Children who attend can hang out and climb the rock wall while parents explore the different camp options offered.
The Y provides weekly camp programs for children and teens ages 3 to 15. Camp Wilbur is one option for children in kindergarten through 5th grade. Kids spend their days participating in arts and crafts, science projects, weekly clubs and archery. In addition to the day’s activities, the fun comes to camp each week. On Wednesday afternoons presenters or shows attend camp for the kids to enjoy. “My favorite presenter last summer was a marionette show we had for ‘Ancient Olympic’ week; he engaged both the kids and staff,” said Camp Director MaryAnn Hanafin. MaryAnn plans the activities and incorporate new themes into each summer’s weekly schedule. “We are excited to add ‘Just Celebrate’ week, ‘Heroes’ week, ‘Once Upon a Time’ week, and will also still incorporate some classic camper favorites like ‘Pirate’ week.”
Extended day is offered for all camps for parents who need to drop off early or pick up late. Summer camp begins Monday, June 24 and registration is now open online or at the Y Welcome Center.
