Quincy’s Director of Operations may be charged with Operating Under the Influence of alcohol a car accident earlier this month.
According to a press release from Weymouth Police, at approximately 7:30 p.m. on March 3, Weymouth police responded to a report of a car crash with injuries on the northbound side of the Fore River Bridge.
When they arrived, officers saw the suspect’s small black sport utility vehicle had struck the guardrail and was blocking both northbound lanes of traffic.
Police said the driver, identified as 44-year-old Helen M. Murphy from Quincy, had visible injures and was taken to South Shore Hospital for non-life threatening injuries.
According to police, Murphy told the officer that she was coming from Hingham Beer Works.
Murphy was issued a citation charging her with operating under the influence of alcohol, operating to endanger, and a marked lanes violation.
Police said complaints have been filed in Quincy District Court for a clerk’s hearing on the charges.
“The clerk’s hearing will determine if there is probably cause for her to be charged. If the clerk finds there is probably cause then she will be arraigned at a later date,” Weymouth Police Captain Richard Fuller said in an email.
According to Fuller, a date has not yet been issued for the hearing, but it is typically held within two to three weeks of the filing of a complaint.
In a phone interview, Christopher Walker, a spokesman for the Quincy mayor, said Murphy was back to work on March 11.
According to the city's website, Murphy is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the city on the behalf of the Mayor
In a statement, Walker said the mayor would not take any action regarding the matter till the issue moves forward in court.
“Helen is a valued member of the Administration who gives the City 60 hours a week, so most importantly the Mayor and all of us here are very grateful she was not seriously injured,” Walker wrote. “ At this point, there are no charges, and until the appropriate process takes place, the Mayor is withholding any further comment.”
