Between Monday morning and Independence Day on Wednesday, Norwood police responded nearly 25 calls regarding fireworks. However, no arrests or charges were filed, according to the police logs. Several children as well as adults around town were spoken with, but many others were not located.
Here are some additional incidents reported to the Norwood police this week. All suspects are presumed to be not guilty until proven otherwise in a court of law. A full list is available at 137 Nahatan St.
On July 2 at 2:03 p.m. a caller on Ridgewood Drive reported an accident. One car was towed from the scene and police filed a report of the incident.
Then at 4:07 p.m., a caller on Saunders Road reported a group of children throwing items from the second floor of a nearby building. The caller said he or she was hit in the head from something thrown, but declined medical treatment. The responding officers spoke with everyone involved.
On July 3 at 6:29 p.m., a caller on Railroad Avenue reported that she was assaulted in a nearby driveway and that several items were taken from her. Police responded and arrested Christopher J. Reid, of Norwood, on charges of assault and battery, intimidating a witness, and malicious destruction of property.
Then at 7:24 p.m. a caller near Lenox and Nahatan streets reported a fight in the area. The responding officers reported that one person left the area on the tracks and Norwood Fire transported another to a nearby hospital.
On July 4 at 12:58 a.m., a caller reported an accident at Walpole and Fisher streets. Two cars were towed from the area and police filed a report about the incident.
Then at 10:04 p.m., someone called police from Washington Street but hung up. Officers responded to the area and requested an ambulance for a reported injury. Diane O. Sheehan, of Norwood, was subsequently arrested on charges of assault and battery.
