Newton North High School was planning a moment of silence this morning to honor the life of a North student whose body was found over the weekend.
The body of Karen Douglas was discovered in Natick late Saturday. Douglas, who was a Newton North High School student, was last seen alive Thursday afternoon.
"Karen will long be remembered for her kind and loving spirit, warm smile and love of crafts and sunflowers. Karen’s parents want others to know that she had been struggling with personal issues for a while and she was receiving significant support,'' Newton North principal Jennifer Price said in a letter to the community, which was posted on The Newtonite, the North student newspaper site.
"We will open the school this afternoon from 2 pm to 4 pm for anyone who might need to gather, entering through Tiger Drive. We will have counselors available in the library and both students and parents/guardians are welcome,'' Price wrote.
Students were planning to wear purple and turquoise today to commemorate Douglas's life, according to the Newtonite Facebook page.
